**Uncertainty at Zandvoort: Lando Norris Questions Effectiveness of Major McLaren F1 Upgrades Ahead of Dutch GP**
Lando Norris is uncertain if the major upgrade for McLaren's Formula 1 car is effective at the Dutch Grand Prix. He expressed optimism but admitted he is unsure about its current performance.
Lando Norris is uncertain if McLaren's extensive Formula 1 upgrade for this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix is effective after the initial day of practice at Zandvoort.
McLaren has unveiled a major upgrade to their vehicle for this weekend's race, marking their first enhancement since the Miami event, as they aim to narrow the gap with Red Bull in the constructors' standings.
McLaren is only 42 points behind Red Bull and could be considered the favorites to win the championship, especially due to Sergio Perez’s inconsistent performances.
McLaren is still in the initial stages of familiarizing themselves with their latest upgrade package.
In an interview with F1TV following the session, Norris expressed that he believes McLaren's car is not the fastest on the track.
"Probably not, Mercedes is quite fast – it’s a tight race,” he mentioned. “I don't believe there is a definitive fastest; it all hinges on various factors."
"We have been performing well since the Miami race, but we haven't introduced any new modifications to the car since then. This weekend will be our initial attempt to advance the car's development further."
"Feeling hopeful, but I'm unsure about its current effectiveness or performance. However, today went fairly well, and we're in a competitive position. With some improvements overnight, we aim to challenge Mercedes."
Norris finished the second practice session with the fourth quickest time, trailing George Russell by slightly more than 0.2 seconds.
The competition for the top position was intense, with McLaren, Mercedes, and Max Verstappen all vying for pole position.
Norris is looking for "some improvement" before he can genuinely compete for the pole position on Saturday.
"Feeling pretty good. It's nice to be driving again, although Zandvoort is a challenging track to return to immediately. It's fast, with lots of elevation changes and twists, offering a bit of everything," he commented.
"It was a good first day returning to the car, but there's still some work to do before tomorrow."
