A Conservative member of the House of Lords has stepped down from his party role following findings that he engaged in bullying and harassment of two individuals during an incident involving alcohol.
Lord Ranger, who previously advised Boris Johnson, is at risk of being prohibited from the House of Lords' bars after an inquiry into his behavior.
He has expressed regret for his actions and relinquished his party affiliations, which requires him to serve as an independent member of the House of Lords.
An announcement from the whip's office declared: "Lord Ranger has stepped down from his role as government whip and has issued an apology for his conduct, which violated the expected norms of the House and of Parliament."
"The panel has proposed a penalty that ought to be adhered to."
The Conduct Committee of the House of Lords has proposed a three-week suspension for Lord Ranger after an inquiry into his behavior at the Strangers' Bar in Parliament this past January.
The panel suggested that he should be prohibited from accessing the bars in the House of Lords for one year.

Starmer's strategy indicates Labour's concentration on the electoral race, though it appears Sunak missed the notice.

In addition to a three-week suspension, the committee also proposed that Lord Ranger be prohibited from accessing the House of Lords' bars for a year to emphasize the chamber's condemnation of behavior linked to alcohol. They further suggested that the House of Commons authorities implement a comparable prohibition in their facilities.
The proposed penalties are pending approval from colleagues, with a vote on the recommendations anticipated in early June.
