A person was discovered deceased near Calais following an overnight attempt to navigate the Channel from France to the UK in a small vessel, French officials have reported.
Following an incident involving a boat, 34 individuals were saved and received care from emergency responders.
The French coastguard reports that multiple boats remain out on the ocean.
The number of small boat crossings has reached an unprecedented level for the current season, with several fatalities occurring in recent weeks.
UK data shows that in the week concluding on July 21, 1,500 individuals navigated across the world's most congested maritime route using 27 boats, with an average of 55 to 56 people aboard each boat.
During the same timeframe, authorities stopped 1,007 individuals aboard 33 vessels from making the crossing.
On Saturday, approximately 370 individuals made the crossing in six separate boats.
So far this year, the number of individuals who have crossed has surpassed 15,000.
The French maritime authorities reported that the rescue operation commenced at approximately 5:30 in the morning upon discovering the distressed vessel.
The passengers called for help. Upon arriving, the coastguard discovered an unconscious individual on the boat.
Subsequently, they were pronounced deceased after being transported to the hospital.

The coastguard reported that although 34 individuals were saved from the ship and one person perished, several others are still aboard the small boat. These remaining passengers are under observation, as any attempt to intervene could potentially cause harm or result in them falling into the water.
