Title: “Ricciardo Apologizes After Hulkenberg Clash at Italian GP; Tsunoda’s Frustration Mounts Over Haas Incident
Daniel Ricciardo comments on collision with Nico Hulkenberg: "I believed there was enough room; I said sorry."
Daniel Ricciardo addresses the incident involving Haas during the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he offered an apology to Nico Hulkenberg after the two drivers were involved in a collision during the first lap of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
Red Bull driver Ricciardo and Hulkenberg were competing in the middle of the pack during the first lap of Sunday’s race at Monza when they collided at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned that he believed he had enough room, but then experienced a collision – resulting in Hulkenberg's Haas being pushed onto the dirt and losing a position to his teammate Kevin Magnussen.
The Australian driver received a five-second penalty for the incident, but later incurred an additional 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics touched his car during the initial penalty at the pit stop.
Ricciardo concluded a challenging race for the Red Bull team on his home turf by finishing in 13th place.
“In the end, our speed wasn’t sufficient today, even disregarding the penalties,” he commented.
"We made an effort, and I was having fun with the close racing at the beginning, but I collided with Nico at Turn 8."
"After the race, I talked to him and mentioned that I believed there was enough space. However, I felt the contact and realized I hadn't given him sufficient room, so I apologized."
"It's challenging because you put in a lot of effort, but even the tiniest differences can impact the outcome."
"The car performed reasonably well afterward, and we gave it our all with the resources available. From Friday afternoon until today, I was striving to extract the best possible performance from the vehicle."
"In my opinion, I am feeling much improved this weekend, and we came very near to earning some points."
Tsunoda 'disappointed'
The Italian Grand Prix for Red Bull was "controlled by Hulkenberg," said team member Laurent Mekies, as a crash involving Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda led to the Japanese driver's race coming to an early end.
"I'm quite annoyed. It's unfortunate that my race ended just a few laps in because of a collision with Nico," Tsunoda commented.
"I attempted to give him plenty of room, but it looked like he froze up, resulting in him losing control and colliding with me."
"Regrettably, we had to withdraw the car from the race because it sustained damage to the floor."
“I noticed the issue immediately and attempted to keep going, but the vehicle was skidding, making it impossible for me to drive it properly.
"Up next are the races in Baku and Singapore, where our car is expected to do well, so we're optimistic about having successful weekends."
Mekies was frustrated with the Tsunoda incident because it cost him important track time in the new RB car that was introduced at Monza.
"In today’s race, Hulkenberg seemed to control the pace. Daniel received a five-second penalty for pushing him off the track. Subsequently, Nico collided with Yuki, which caused us to withdraw the car," he stated.
"The most exasperating part of Yuki's retirement is that we missed out on 40 laps which would have helped us better understand the new updates we implemented here."
"Daniel was handed an additional 10-second penalty due to an error in the application of the initial penalty."
“We must examine our procedures in this situation and take lessons from the error made today. Although such incidents occur, our pit crew’s performance has been outstanding overall this season.”
