**Title: Fernando Alonso Addresses Adrian Newey Rumors Amid Aston Martin’s Ongoing Struggles**
Fernando Alonso addresses speculation about an imminent Adrian Newey announcement this week
"I'm not one for making excuses," says Fernando Alonso amid Aston Martin's difficulties
Fernando Alonso emphasizes that resolving Aston Martin's issues requires more than a single individual, despite ongoing rumors connecting Adrian Newey to the team.
Reports from the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix indicate that Aston Martin may reveal Newey's signing in a matter of days.
Adrian Newey, the current chief technology officer for Red Bull, is set to leave his position early next year. At that time, he will be able to join a competing Formula 1 team.
Rumors that he might move to Aston Martin have intensified lately, while speculation about a potential switch to Ferrari has diminished.
During an appearance at Monza, Alonso commented, "For now, there are just rumors, and I believe it's not the responsibility of a single person to resolve the issues."
"It's about focusing on our current situation and output. We need to recognize what's progressing well and what's not, and aim to improve our approach for 2025."
Should Newey be available next year, he could manage the 2026 car for a different team, potentially providing them with a significant advantage when the new engine regulations start.
Aston Martin has poured significant funds into a new Silverstone facility and secured a contract with Alonso through 2026. They will collaborate with Honda to develop an engine that meets the upcoming regulations.
However, up to that point, the outcomes have been rather dismal.
Aston Martin holds the fifth position in the constructors' championship standings. At the Italian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso secured 11th place, while his teammate, Lance Stroll, ended up in 19th place.
The year 2025 could serve as a period of growth for Aston Martin before they make a significant push in 202
“There’s nothing we can do,” Alonso responded. “I mean, we rely on our team, and I believe that both Lance and I are doing our best every weekend.”
"During an inspiring weekend like this one, I anticipate it will remain entirely unnoticed."
"This year, Lance and I have been very close in performance, often finishing just two or three seconds apart at the end of the race, with one of us either just ahead or just behind the other. This weekend, I had a slight edge, felt great with the car, and pushed it perhaps beyond its limits, which resulted in an 11th place finish."
"Yes, it's disappointing. We have to be patient and keep in mind that our main goal is set for 2026."
"However, I believe that as a team, we can come to terms with not competing for a top-four spot. The leading teams are significantly ahead of us."
"However, being outperformed by Williams, Haas, and Red Bull means we need to step up our game. Improvement is necessary."
Alonso commented on the car for next year, saying, "I believe we still have time to make adjustments."
“McLaren went from finishing last to securing a spot on the podium in just four months. This serves as a clear example.”
“Mercedes began the season on equal footing with us. We were neck and neck with Mercedes for the first four races, and they have already secured three victories this year. So, I don't buy into excuses.”
However, it seems improbable that Aston Martin will make progress in the upcoming races.
Alonso expressed frustration, stating that the current state of the car is insufficient and needs an upgrade to improve performance.
"Fell short in Monza. Disappointing results in Zandvoort, Spa, and Hungary."
"I believe that unless we introduce new components, we won't see significant changes in Baku, Singapore, or Austin."
"That's the strategy. Everyone on the team knows what's going on. They're working tirelessly. So, we stay together and keep striving. Last weekend we earned one point. Today we almost got two points, and that's the challenge we face."
