Title: “Carlos Sainz on McLaren’s Dutch GP Triumph: ‘Depressing for All, Not Just Ferrari’
Carlos Sainz shared his thoughts on McLaren's strong performance at the Dutch Grand Prix, saying, "It's disheartening for everyone."
"Well, at least it's not only Ferrari that's affected."
Carlos Sainz expressed that McLaren's overwhelming performance at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday was "disheartening for everyone" following Lando Norris's remarkable F1 win.
Norris secured his second win in Formula 1, finishing more than 22 seconds ahead and cutting Max Verstappen's championship lead to 70 points with nine races remaining.
It was reminiscent of Red Bull's early season supremacy, with Norris enjoying an effortless weekend.
Following a disappointing performance in qualifying by Ferrari, where Charles Leclerc was 0.9 seconds behind the pole position and Carlos Sainz didn't make it past Q2, the race turned out to be unexpectedly good for the Italian team.
Leclerc managed to hold off Oscar Piastri and secured a spot on the podium, while Sainz made a comeback to achieve a top five finish.
Following the race at Zandvoort, where Crash.net was present in the paddock, Sainz emphasized that McLaren's strong performance was likely due to Norris having a "very solid weekend."
"It's true, but the disappointment affects everyone, not just Ferrari," he clarified. "On the bright side, we're not trailing behind Red Bull… and Mercedes. In fact, we overtook a Red Bull today and even caught up with a McLaren during the race."
"Lando clearly had an impressive performance throughout the weekend. We need to acknowledge that. Oscar, finishing in fourth place, shows that it wasn't just McLaren excelling; Lando truly had an outstanding weekend."
Ferrari has resolved their problems since the Monaco race, though they continue to struggle with bouncing.
Consequently, they have to adjust the car's configuration to prevent any bouncing.
Sainz is optimistic that the upcoming improvements in the next races will resolve these issues.
"We're somewhat affected, though not severely," he mentioned. "I believe that once we figure out or identify the true cause of this porpoising, which I think we're still a bit behind in comprehending, we'll be better off."
"We're optimistic that the upcoming new floor or the soon-to-arrive upgrades will eliminate these issues, allowing us to concentrate on increasing the car's downforce."
