An anonymous official from Formosa Plastics Group arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on a flight from Taipei on September 1, and was quickly taken into custody by border control officials, according to a report by Taiwan's Central News Agency on Wednesday.
The report indicated that after being interrogated and released, the executive was prevented from exiting the mainland when he attempted to leave at a later time.
According to the report, the individual has been unable to go back to Taiwan, and the cause for this remains unclear.
Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council reportedly stated that while Taiwanese officials are cognizant of the circumstances, they are refraining from providing specific information due to safety concerns for the individual involved and out of respect for the family's preferences.
