Subaru Enthüllt “Project Midnight”: Der Ultimative WRX mit 670 PS für das Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024
Subaru Unveils Most Powerful and Quickest WRX in History
The Project Midnight features a carbon body and revs up to 9,500 RPM
Subaru is set to arrive at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a WRX that stands out from the rest. Aptly named Project Midnight, this black vehicle boasts a carbon-fiber body that significantly cuts down on weight.
Subaru claims that with a powerful boost in performance, this is the fastest and most agile WRX race car ever created by Subaru Motorsports USA.
Let's begin with the engine. This is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine that originates from the company's rallycross team; however, this version generates 670 horsepower and 922 Nm of torque. The turbocharged engine, equipped with an intercooler, revs up to 9,500 RPM and powers all four wheels, as is characteristic for a WRX model. It's mounted within a racing-optimized chassis that has been lightened, with the entire assembly weighing in at 1,120 kilograms. This is approximately 450 kg lighter than the standard WRX model.
The carbon fiber body of the vehicle comes with a variety of aerodynamic enhancements. The front end features small aero wings and a substantial front wing that extends into the boldly flared wheel arches, creating a widebody appearance. The rear wing is a significantly altered variant of the one found on Subaru USA's rally car. This ultimate WRX is equipped with a suspension system tailored specifically for tarmac and sports 18-inch wheels shod with slick tires to increase traction.
If this vehicle looks remotely familiar to you, chances are it's because it echoes the Subaru Gymkhana 2020 video featuring Travis Pastrana. The crew at Vermont SportsCar drew inspiration from that clip for their Project Midnight, yet this car isn't designed for aerial stunts. Behind the wheel is rallycross champion and former Formula One driver Scott Speed, who will pilot the Subaru up Goodwood's famed Hill Climb. Additionally, over the next few months, the team aims to challenge other unspecified records with this car.
Additional from Subaru:
"Subaru Motorsports USA and the crew at Vermont SportsCar have truly unleashed a monster," stated Speed. "Behind the wheel, it's clear the car is rooted in rallycross, yet the wider tires, track width, and geometry endow it with a distinct sensation and phenomenal traction. It's the ultimate driving machine; a hybrid of RX and sports car elements – an absolute delight to pilot."
Project Midnight is set for its official unveiling at Goodwood on July 11th.
