Strong Performance: Lewis Hamilton Confident in Mercedes’ Pace Amid Wet Conditions at Canadian Grand Prix
"The car felt powerful," reported Lewis Hamilton, expressing optimism about Mercedes' performance in Canada. The day proved to be promising for both Hamilton and the Mercedes team.
Lewis Hamilton expressed satisfaction with the performance of his Mercedes W15 during the Canadian Grand Prix practice session on Friday, remarking that "the car felt strong."
The practice sessions at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve faced disruptions due to rainy conditions, preventing all teams from getting significant time on dry tires.
Most of the laps during the second practice session were completed on a wet track, with Fernando Alonso leading the timesheet, followed by George Russell.
During the morning session, Hamilton secured the fourth position. In FP2, despite facing traffic that hindered his lap, he ultimately recorded the seventh-fastest time.
Hamilton has experienced significant triumphs in Canada throughout the years, securing seven wins.
Although Friday presented challenging track conditions, Hamilton remained "confident" in his car.
"The vehicle performed well consistently, and I didn't even complete what could have been my quickest lap," Hamilton stated.
"This track is among our favorites, making today particularly enjoyable. Lately, we've faced tougher Saturdays, but I feel assured on the course and the car is responding well to my commands."
"In the end, we won't truly understand our position until the qualifying round, but overall, it was a very positive day."
Rainy conditions are anticipated to continue throughout the rest of the weekend.
This could be encouraging information for Hamilton, as he secured a front-row start in the China sprint race under variable weather conditions and went on to finish second in the main race.
"It was fantastic being out there; I was eager and ready to perform regardless of the circumstances," he mentioned.
"I was glad we could make the most of our time on the track, which is crucial for a circuit like this where improving your speed is key."
"It also involved grasping the situation and getting familiar with the newly installed surface."
