Speculation Swirls Around Sainz’s Williams Contract: Eddie Jordan Predicts Release Clause
Williams investigates "release clause" speculation concerning Carlos Sainz
“I am confident, given my knowledge of Carlos' father, that there is likely a release clause in place."
According to Eddie Jordan, Carlos Sainz’s agreement with Williams likely contains a provision that allows him to transfer to a more prominent team.
Williams secured the significant acquisition of outgoing Ferrari driver Sainz for 2025 and the subsequent years, surpassing both Sauber and Alpine in the race for his signature.
James Vowles, the head of the Williams team, swiftly addressed and dismissed rumors regarding a potential release clause if Red Bull or Mercedes showed interest in Sainz.
"According to Vowles, only 10 individuals worldwide are aware of the contract's details. He also assured that Sainz is dedicated for the long haul."
Nevertheless, F1 veteran Jordan speculates whether there might be a clause in the agreement that permits Sainz to reconsider.
On his YouTube channel, Formula For Success, Jordan commented that the individual has performed exceptionally well at Ferrari.
"This move by Williams to secure his talent is a significant and strategic victory."
"However, I'm certain there are minor problems. Carlos would have rather been with McLaren, Red Bull, or definitely Mercedes."
"I'm certain, given my knowledge of Carlos' father, that there will definitely be a release clause."
"Or perhaps a method for Carlos to escape if something large blocks his path."
"Right now, that is what is planned. We’ll have to wait and see how things develop in the next season."
“At the moment, I find it motivating because I enjoy seeing drivers compete head-to-head. I’m a big admirer of Albon.”
"I believe they make an excellent team. The edge likely goes to Sainz, who has won three grand prix races."
“If Williams manages to secure a podium finish next year, it would bring immense joy.”
"Back in my time, both as a driver and part of the team, Williams was an extraordinary organization. They were absolutely astonishing."
"Adrian Newey was the mastermind behind the design of their car."
"Seeing Williams return to their former glory would be incredibly satisfying."
Next year, Sainz and Albon will make a thrilling pair.
Vowles has emphasized that their expanding initiative aims for 2026, a year when the new F1 rules might offer a significant chance to move up the rankings.
