Shockwaves in F1: Yuki Tsunoda Snubbed in Red Bull Seat Contention Amid Perez Pressure
Surprise over the omission of a standout F1 driver from consideration to replace Sergio Perez
“I’m baffled as to why he’s not being considered for the second Red Bull seat”
There has been astonishment over Yuki Tsunoda not being considered as a potential replacement for Sergio Perez.
Perez faced intense scrutiny as he began 2024, with his prized car for the next season hanging in the balance.
Despite performing well enough to keep his rivals like Daniel Ricciardo at bay, he had a dreadful experience at the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend.
Despite Yuki Tsunoda's impressive driving for Red Bull's sister team, he has not been seriously considered as a replacement for Sergio Perez.
F1 Nation podcast host Tom Clarkson expressed confusion over why he isn't being considered for the second Red Bull seat.
Diego Mejia, a journalist from Fox Sports Mexico, responded by saying, "I don't believe he grasps why he isn't even considered as a potential driver for Red Bull in the future."
"He's making all the correct moves. He is defeating a previous Monaco champion."
"Daniel used to be among the leading drivers in Formula 1. Currently, Yuki is regularly outperforming him."
"Yuki is in a positive mental state. He's managing to keep his anger under control better than he used to."
"We've only watched one episode of that show. It made sense when he was asked to step aside for Daniel during the initial race in Bahrain."
"Since then, he's been fully committed and has consistently met expectations."
"Eventually, if he feels that he isn't getting the recognition he thinks he deserves as a Red Bull driver, he'll need to consider other options."
"This is an excellent time for him to focus on that. He is evidently performing well on the track."
Aston Martin has been mentioned as a potential team for Tsunoda in the future, thanks to their upcoming partnership with Honda in 2026. Honda, being a major Japanese company, might prefer having a Japanese driver on the team.
Tsunoda, currently performing well, has earned points in five out of the last six races.
He managed to secure an impressive eighth place during the crucial Saturday qualifying session in Monaco.
Perez, on the other hand, caused Red Bull approximately $3 million in damages due to a significant accident during the qualifying session in Monaco.
While it seems likely that Christian Horner will remain next year, he has consistently avoided confirming Perez's contract renewal when questioned.
