**”Sainz’s Bold Move: From Ferrari’s Front-Runner to Williams’ Hopeful – A Deep Dive into the Transition”**
Williams comments on concerns regarding Carlos Sainz’s shift from the front to the back of the grid
"Are you worried that this change will be challenging for Carlos?"
In 2025, Carlos Sainz will transition from the team currently ranked second in the constructors’ championship to the team positioned in ninth place.
Williams has achieved a significant milestone by persuading the departing Ferrari driver to join their team for the next season.
His dedication to their extended endeavor could result in forfeiting the grand prix victories he has grown used to achieving in the near term.
Tom Clarkson, the host of the F1 Nation podcast, discussed this concern with James Vowles, the principal of the Williams team.
Clarkson inquired, “Are you worried that the transition will be challenging for Carlos? He has already secured a victory for Ferrari and could potentially win another race in the latter part of the year.”
"So, he’s transitioning from a victorious Ferrari racer to joining a team that is currently lagging behind.
"Do you believe it's challenging for a driver to understand?"
Former Mercedes head Vowles confessed, "You've captured the reason for the delay in making the decision. Yes."
"However, I view it as being the same as the path I've traveled."
"I intentionally moved from the front to the back of the lineup."
"The benefits of advancing the team are much more significant than occasional victories."
“I believe that is what Carlos is thinking.”
"He understands the commitment he's made. He's not naive."
Sainz has been negotiating with Williams since the end of last year and ultimately chose them over Sauber and Alpine.
Vowles mentioned that the initial occasion he encountered the individual's family was in Abu Dhabi in 2023, at a time when the individual had a contract with Ferrari.
"I had only ever researched this thoroughly about one driver, and that was Carlos."
"That doesn't imply I wasn't in conversation with other drivers. I was indeed speaking with them at various times. However, those interactions were minor compared to my talks with Carlos."
"In 2023, the message was 'this is my identity, these are my principles, this is why I'm passionate about the project, and I urge you to give it serious thought.'"
However, Vowles has held Sainz in high regard for numerous years.
"I was already watching him," he stated. "Carlos has outperformed Lando, Charles, and occasionally Max."
“I recall Toro Rosso saying, ‘Max is fast, but don’t overlook the other guy’.”
“It began during that period. In his second year with McLaren, when he was mentally focused, his performance really developed…
"When he's at ease, he's incredibly fast! We weren't aware of Lando's speed back then. However, I was familiar with George's pace, and they are connected."
At last, Williams has secured their desired candidate.
Sainz has agreed to team up with Alex Albon for a minimum of two years.
