Ricciardo’s Future in Jeopardy: Reflects on Missed Opportunities at Dutch GP Amid F1 Career Battle
Daniel Ricciardo comments on the lack of second opportunities after a lackluster Dutch Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo evaluates disappointing outcome as he fights to retain his spot in Formula 1
Daniel Ricciardo failed to secure any points at the F1 Dutch Grand Prix, as he remains in the struggle to preserve his racing career.
He secured the 12th position at Zandvoort, outperforming his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who ended up five spots behind him. The differing tactics employed by RB resulted in their drivers spending a significant portion of the race in turbulent air.
Ricciardo aimed to steer clear of such mediocre outcomes, especially with his F1 career in limbo and no deal signed for 2025.
"In the midfield, if a car performs well on a specific track, it can make significant progress," he commented in Zandvoort.
"Our car's performance during the race seemed good enough for points, but some competitors were simply performing better. We need to acknowledge that this happens occasionally."
"Today, I'm more satisfied with the overall situation."
Analyzing a situation right after a poor qualifying session is challenging. I believe my feelings of frustration and disappointment were mainly directed at myself.
"Looking back, there were definitely some adjustments we could have made to the car to improve its performance. However, we also have to deal with the fact that the car can be difficult to handle at times."
"I felt let down by my own performance and wished I had managed the situation more effectively. As I mentioned before, if you fail in the first qualifying round, you're done. Opportunities for redemption are rare."
Tsunoda commented, "The timing of our pit stop was too late."
"Whenever I tried to get back on the track, I found myself trailing behind other vehicles and constantly caught in their turbulent air."
"Frankly, I believe our car's performance was lacking in every aspect. I don't fault the strategy itself, but the timing of its execution was entirely off."
"Qualifying went okay, and we were fortunate with our speed too. I believe I got the most out of our car's capabilities. However, to be frank, the race did not go as we had hoped."
"I aimed to accomplish something, but in the conclusion of the race, we came away with nothing, making it quite challenging."
Will Ricciardo be cut from Formula 1?
Seven days ago, Helmut Marko’s statement that Liam Lawson would secure a 2025 race seat with either Red Bull or their sister team sparked controversy.
Ricciardo was the sole driver from both teams who didn't have a contract, suggesting his time might be limited.
However, Christian Horner explained Marko’s position, emphasizing that Lawson would secure a spot on the F1 grid, though it might not be with Red Bull or an RB team.
However, for Ricciardo, it served as a reminder of the tough conditions faced by drivers who don't meet expectations at Red Bull.
Only three slots remain available for next year's lineup – Ricciardo's Red Bull, a seat at Sauber, and a Mercedes spot that is expected to go to Kimi Antonelli.
This weekend, during the F1 Italian Grand Prix at the same venue where he last won a race in 2021, Ricciardo aims to deliver the standout performance that he missed achieving at Zandvoort.
