**”Ricciardo Reflects on Hulkenberg Clash and Penalty-Laden Italian GP: ‘I Thought We Had Space; I Apologised'”**
Daniel Ricciardo comments on the incident with Nico Hulkenberg: "I believed there was enough room; I said sorry"
Daniel Ricciardo responds to clash with Haas at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he apologized to Nico Hulkenberg after their collision on the first lap of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo was contending with Nico Hulkenberg in the middle of the pack during the first lap of the race at Monza on Sunday when they collided at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned he believed he had enough room, but then experienced a collision. This resulted in Hulkenberg's Haas being pushed onto the dirt, allowing Kevin Magnussen, his teammate, to overtake him.
The Australian driver received a five-second penalty for the incident. However, he later had to serve an additional 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics made contact with the car while he was serving the initial penalty during his pitstop.
Ricciardo finished a difficult home race for the Red Bull team in 13th place.
“In the end, we didn’t have enough speed today, even excluding the penalties,” he remarked.
“We gave it a shot, and I was having fun with the close racing at the beginning, but I had a collision with Nico in Turn 8.
“After the race, I talked to him and mentioned that I believed we had enough space. However, I felt the impact, so I realized I hadn’t given him sufficient room. I then apologized.”
"It's challenging because you put in a lot of effort, but even the tiniest differences can have a significant impact."
"The vehicle performed adequately afterward, and we exerted maximum effort with the resources available. I aimed to extract the highest performance from the car from Friday afternoon until today."
"I personally feel much better this weekend, and we came very close to earning points."
Tsunoda's Frustration Boils Over
Laurent Mekies from RB claimed that the Italian Grand Prix was heavily influenced by Nico Hulkenberg. A crash involving Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda led to the Japanese driver's race coming to an early end.
"I'm quite upset; it's unfortunate that my race ended just a few laps in because of a collision with Nico," Tsunoda remarked.
"I attempted to give him plenty of room, but it appeared that he froze up, lost control, and collided with me."
"Regrettably, we had to pull the car out of the race due to damage sustained on the underside."
"I immediately sensed it and attempted to keep going, but the vehicle was skidding and I just couldn't control it."
"We're heading to Baku and Singapore next, and our car is expected to do well on those tracks. We're optimistic about having successful weekends in the near future."
Mekies is upset about the Tsunoda incident because it cost him important time on the track with the newly updated RB car that was brought to Monza.
"Today's race seemed to be controlled by Hulkenberg. Daniel received a five-second penalty for pushing him off the track, and then Nico collided with Yuki, which resulted in us having to retire the car," he stated.
"The most disappointing part of Yuki's retirement is the missed opportunity to gain valuable insights from the 40 laps he couldn't complete, which would have helped us better understand the new updates we implemented."
"Daniel was given another 10-second penalty because we didn't properly carry out the initial one."
"We must evaluate our processes in this situation and draw lessons from the error made today. Such incidents occur, but overall, our pit crew's performance has been outstanding this season."
