Ricciardo Apologizes to Hulkenberg After Collision at Italian Grand Prix: Penalties and Frustration Plague RB Team
Daniel Ricciardo comments on Nico Hulkenberg collision: “I believed there was enough room; I said sorry”
Daniel Ricciardo responds to mishap with Haas during the F1 Italian Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he apologized to Nico Hulkenberg after they collided on the first lap of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo found himself dueling with Nico Hulkenberg in the middle of the field during the first lap of Sunday's race at Monza when they collided at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned that he believed he had enough room, but then experienced a collision. As a result, Hulkenberg's Haas was pushed onto the dirt, allowing Kevin Magnussen, his teammate, to move ahead.
The Australian driver received a five-second penalty for the incident, but later had to serve a 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics touched his car during his pit stop when he was serving the initial penalty.
Ricciardo concluded a challenging race at his home track for the Red Bull team, finishing in 13th place.
"In the end, we just didn't have the speed today, even without considering the penalties," he stated.
"We gave it a shot, and I was having fun with the close racing at the beginning, but I collided with Nico in Turn 8."
"After the race, I talked to him and mentioned that I initially thought we had enough space. However, I felt the impact and realized I hadn’t left sufficient room, so I apologized."
"It's challenging because you put in a lot of effort, but even the tiniest differences can be crucial."
"The vehicle performed adequately afterward, and we exerted maximum effort given our resources. I aimed to extract the utmost potential from the car from Friday afternoon until today."
“From my perspective, I’m feeling much improved this weekend, and we nearly earned some points.”
Tsunoda 'frustrated' after Italian GP
Laurent Mekies from Red Bull Racing stated that the Italian Grand Prix was heavily influenced by Nico Hulkenberg of Haas. A collision between Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda resulted in the Japanese driver having to retire from the race.
"I'm quite upset; it's disappointing because my race effectively ended just a few laps in after colliding with Nico," Tsunoda remarked.
"I attempted to give him plenty of room, but it appeared that he froze up, resulting in a loss of control and a collision with me."
"Regrettably, we had to withdraw the car due to floor damage."
"I noticed it immediately and attempted to keep going, but the vehicle was skidding, and I just couldn't control it."
"Upcoming races in Baku and Singapore should suit our car well, so we are optimistic about having successful weekends."
Mekies is upset about the Tsunoda incident because it caused him to lose important track time with the upgraded RB car that was introduced at Monza.
"Regarding today's race, it could be said that Hulkenberg set the pace. Daniel received a five-second penalty for pushing him off the track. Following that, Nico collided with Yuki, which resulted in us having to retire the car," he commented.
"The biggest disappointment of Yuki's retirement is missing out on 40 laps that would have helped us better understand the new updates we implemented here."
"Daniel was given an additional 10-second penalty as the initial one was not implemented properly."
"We must re-evaluate our processes in this situation and draw lessons from the error made today. Such incidents occur, yet our pit crew's performance has largely been outstanding this season."
