Ricciardo Apologizes After Hulkenberg Clash at Italian Grand Prix: ‘I Thought We Had Space
Daniel Ricciardo comments on his collision with Nico Hulkenberg: "I believed there was enough room; I said sorry"
Daniel Ricciardo addresses the incident involving Haas during the F1 Italian Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he apologized to Nico Hulkenberg after they collided on the first lap of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
RB driver Ricciardo and Hulkenberg were competing in the middle of the pack during the first lap of Sunday’s race at Monza when they collided at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned that he believed he had enough room, but then experienced a collision. This incident pushed Hulkenberg's Haas off the track, allowing Kevin Magnussen, his teammate, to pass him.
An Australian driver received a five-second penalty due to an incident. However, he later had to endure a 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics made contact with his car while he was serving the initial penalty during a pitstop.
Ricciardo concluded a challenging home Grand Prix for the Red Bull team in 13th place.
“In the end, we didn’t have enough speed today, even without considering the penalties,” he stated.
"We gave it our best shot, and I was really having fun battling side by side at the beginning, but I ended up colliding with Nico at Turn 8."
After the race, I had a conversation with him. I believed there was enough space, but I felt the impact, indicating I didn't leave sufficient room. I apologized for that.
"It's challenging because you put in a lot of effort, but even the tiniest differences can have a big impact."
"The vehicle performed adequately afterward, and we exerted maximum effort given our resources. From Friday afternoon until today, I aimed to extract the utmost performance from the car."
"From my perspective, I'm feeling much improved this weekend, and we nearly managed to earn some points."
Tsunoda 'frustrated' after Italian GP
Laurent Mekies from RB claimed that the team's performance at the Italian Grand Prix was heavily influenced by Hulkenberg. A clash between Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda led to the Japanese driver being unable to finish the race.
"I'm really disappointed; it's unfortunate that my race ended just a few laps in because of a collision with Nico," Tsunoda remarked.
"I attempted to give him plenty of room, but it appeared he froze, lost control, and collided with me."
“Regrettably, we had to take the car out of the race due to damage sustained to the floor.
"I immediately sensed something was wrong and attempted to keep going, but the vehicle was skidding, making it impossible for me to control it."
"We're heading to Baku and Singapore next, where our car is expected to perform well. We're optimistic about having successful weekends at both locations."
Mekies was upset about the Tsunoda incident because it caused him to lose important practice time with the upgraded RB car that was brought to Monza.
"Reflecting on today's race, it could be argued that Hulkenberg played a major role. Daniel received a five-second penalty for pushing him off the track. Later, Nico collided with Yuki, which ultimately led us to withdraw the car," he explained.
"The most exasperating part of Yuki's retirement is missing out on 40 laps that would have enhanced our knowledge of the new updates we rolled out here."
Daniel was subsequently given an additional 10-second penalty due to improper execution of the initial penalty.
“We must evaluate our processes in this situation and take lessons from the error made today. While such incidents can occur, our pit crew has typically performed outstandingly this season.”
