Ricciardo Apologizes After Hulkenberg Clash as Penalties Mar RB’s Italian GP Weekend
Daniel Ricciardo on Nico Hulkenberg incident: "I believed there was enough room; I said sorry"
Daniel Ricciardo responds to collision with Haas at the F1 Italian Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he apologized to Nico Hulkenberg after they collided on the first lap of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
Red Bull driver Ricciardo clashed with Hulkenberg during the first lap of the Monza race on Sunday, as they fought for position in the middle of the pack at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned that he believed he had enough room, but then experienced a collision. This incident pushed Hulkenberg's Haas car off the track, allowing Kevin Magnussen, Hulkenberg's teammate, to overtake him.
The Australian driver received a five-second penalty for the incident. However, he was subsequently required to serve a 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics touched his car during the initial penalty at his pit stop.
Ricciardo concluded a difficult race at his home circuit for the Red Bull team by finishing in 13th place.
"In the end, we just weren't fast enough today, even without factoring in the penalties," he remarked.
“We gave it our best shot, and I was having a great time battling side-by-side at the beginning, but then I collided with Nico at Turn 8.
"After the race, I talked to him and explained that I believed there was enough space. However, I felt the impact, which indicated I hadn’t given him sufficient room, so I apologized."
"It's challenging because you give it your all, but even the tiniest differences can be crucial."
"The car was functioning well afterward, and we gave it our all with the resources available to us. I’ve been striving to extract the best performance from the car since Friday afternoon up to today."
"I personally feel much better this weekend, and we nearly earned some points."
Tsunoda expressed his frustration after the Italian Grand Prix for Red Bull, which team member Laurent Mekies said was significantly influenced by Nico Hulkenberg. A clash between Hulkenberg's Haas car and Yuki Tsunoda led to the Japanese driver's early exit from the race.
Yuki Tsunoda expressed his frustration, lamenting that his race effectively ended just a few laps in following a collision with Nico.
"I attempted to give him plenty of room, but it appeared he froze up, resulting in him losing control and colliding with me."
"Regrettably, we had to withdraw the car due to damage sustained on the floor."
“I immediately noticed the issue and attempted to keep driving, but the vehicle was skidding uncontrollably and I just couldn’t manage it.
"We're heading to Baku and Singapore next, where our car is expected to perform strongly, so we're optimistic about having successful weekends coming up."
Mekies is upset about the Tsunoda incident because it caused him to lose important time on the track with the newly updated RB car at Monza.
"Speaking about today's race, Hulkenberg seemed to be in control. Daniel received a five-second penalty for pushing him off the track, and then Nico collided with Yuki, which resulted in us having to retire the car," he stated.
"The most disappointing part of Yuki's retirement is missing out on 40 laps that could have helped us better understand the new updates we implemented."
"Daniel was given an additional 10-second penalty because the initial penalty was not applied properly."
“We must re-evaluate our processes in light of this incident and take lessons from the error made today. Although such issues can arise, our pit crew has performed outstandingly overall this season.”
