**”Ricciardo Apologises After Hulkenberg Clash at Italian Grand Prix: Penalties and Frustrations Mar RB’s Monza Race”**
Daniel Ricciardo comments on collision with Nico Hulkenberg: “I believed there was enough room; I said sorry”
Daniel Ricciardo responds to the incident involving Haas at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he apologized to Nico Hulkenberg after they collided on the first lap of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
Red Bull driver Ricciardo clashed with Hulkenberg during the first lap of Sunday's race at Monza, as they competed in the midfield, specifically at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned that he believed he had enough room, but then experienced a collision – which resulted in Hulkenberg's Haas being pushed onto the dirt and losing a position to his teammate, Kevin Magnussen.
The Australian driver received a five-second time penalty for the incident. However, he was subsequently handed a 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics touched his car while he was serving the initial penalty during his pitstop.
Ricciardo finished a problematic home race for the Red Bull team in 13th place.
"In the end, we didn't have the speed today, even without considering the penalties," he stated.
"We gave it our best shot, and I was really having fun with the close racing at the beginning, but then I collided with Nico at Turn 8."
"After the race, I talked to him and realized I didn't leave enough space. I felt the contact and apologized for it."
"It's challenging because you put in maximum effort, but even the tiniest differences can impact the outcome."
"The vehicle performed adequately afterward, and we gave it our all with the resources available to us. I aimed to extract the utmost performance from the car starting Friday afternoon up until today."
“In my opinion, I'm feeling much improved this weekend, and we were nearly able to earn some points.”
Tsunoda 'frustrated' after race
The Italian Grand Prix for Red Bull was strongly influenced by Nico Hulkenberg, said team member Laurent Mekies, following a crash between the Haas driver and Yuki Tsunoda that forced the Japanese driver to retire from the race.
“It’s quite disappointing. My race effectively ended just a few laps in because of a collision with Nico,” Tsunoda commented.
"I attempted to give him plenty of room, but he appeared to freeze up, leading to a loss of control and a collision with me."
“Regrettably, we had to withdraw the car from the race due to damage sustained on the floor.
"I noticed it immediately and attempted to keep going, but the vehicle was skidding and I just couldn't control it."
"We're heading to Baku and Singapore next, and our vehicle is expected to perform strongly at those locations. We're optimistic about having successful weekends there."
Mekies is frustrated about the Tsunoda incident because it caused him to lose important track time with the upgraded RB car that was brought to Monza.
"Regarding today's race, it could be said that Hulkenberg set the pace. Daniel received a five-second penalty for pushing him off the track, after which Nico collided with Yuki, causing us to retire the car," he stated.
"The most disappointing thing about Yuki's retirement is missing out on 40 laps that could have helped us better evaluate the new updates we implemented."
"Daniel was given an additional 10-second penalty because the initial penalty wasn't carried out properly."
"We must reassess our processes in this situation and take lessons from today's error. Although such incidents occur, our pit crew's performance has typically been outstanding this season."
