Ricciardo Aims to Keep Spirits High Amid Uncertainty as RB Shines in Singapore
Amid swirling rumors, Daniel Ricciardo is optimistic about maintaining his positive outlook following Red Bull's impressive early performance. He is hopeful that Red Bull can carry their strong initial pace into the qualifying rounds in Singapore.
Daniel Ricciardo aims to "keep smiling" following Red Bull's strong performance at the beginning of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix weekend.
Both Red Bull drivers secured spots within the top-10 during Friday’s practice sessions, signaling a very promising and notable beginning to the weekend in Singapore.
Yuki Tsunoda concluded the second practice session in fourth place, with Ricciardo securing sixth, trailing McLaren’s Oscar Piastri by a mere 0.004 seconds, who was positioned between the two Red Bull drivers.
“It was an excellent day for our team,” Ricciardo mentioned to F1TV.
"This afternoon, we finished in fourth and sixth place. The gap between four of us was just two-hundredths of a second, making it an incredibly tight competition."
"We are quite pleased with the vehicle, though it requires some adjustments."
“It was great to find ourselves at the forefront. It seems we have a solid setup here."
"The previous occasions when we used high downforce were at Zandvoort and Budapest. We performed well at those tracks. It’s possible that this track is better aligned with our car’s capabilities, especially with the larger wings and this type of circuit."
"We believed we would perform well in Baku, but our low downforce proved otherwise."
"The high downforce configuration seems to be working in our favor. Let's hope it stays this way tomorrow so we can keep celebrating and saying 'this is fantastic!'"
Ricciardo and Red Bull have shown improved performance during a weekend filled with heavy rumors regarding the 35-year-old Australian driver's future.
Daniel Ricciardo is vying for the last Red Bull seat for the 2025 season, competing against reserve driver Liam Lawson, who will join Yuki Tsunoda. However, there are indications that Ricciardo might be replaced before the upcoming race.
On Thursday, he confessed that he's uncertain about keeping his seat, but anticipates a decision after this weekend's race in Singapore.
Sky Sports F1 commentator Martin Brundle insists that the Singapore race will be Ricciardo's last time in his driving position.
According to Brundle, it appears that Daniel will not be racing in Austin for the upcoming grand prix, but he will stay affiliated with the Red Bull team.
"They are interested in observing Liam Lawson's performance for various reasons. Had Daniel performed better this season, it would have significantly impacted not only the secondary team at RB but also the main team at Red Bull."
“He hasn’t had the success he was hoping for. I doubt he’ll be racing in Austin.”
