Revving Up for 2026: Carlos Sainz Eyes Red Bull Seat After Strategic 2025 Stopgap
Carlos Sainz aims for a spot with Red Bull in 2026, planning a temporary one-year contract with a competing F1 team.
Carlos Sainz is aiming to join Red Bull in 2026, but he needs to make a different career move beforehand.
Next year, Lewis Hamilton will replace the current Ferrari driver, who is currently negotiating with several other teams.
According to Gazzetta, his top goal is to secure a position with Red Bull in 2026.
It appears that Red Bull is planning to extend Sergio Perez's contract, which is set to end this year, by offering him a new one-year deal to keep him racing with Max Verstappen through 2025.
However, in 2026, with the introduction of new F1 rules, the car might be accessible once more, and Sainz aims to be in a favorable position.
Carlos Sainz has entered into discussions with Mercedes regarding a potential move in 2025, but team principal Toto Wolff has expressed a desire to delay making any decisions about who will succeed Lewis Hamilton.
As a result, Sainz has two choices for the upcoming year.
Audi, who have been long-time fans, are interested in having him on their team, even though they are currently operating under the Sauber name.
Audi has a connection with him because his father won the Dakar Rally driving one of their vehicles.
However, the Sauber car is evidently not a leading contender at this time, and Audi is seeking a long-term commitment from Sainz to lead their developing F1 initiative.
Last weekend in Monaco, Williams moved ahead in the race to secure Sainz’s signature.
According to an Italian newspaper, Williams might present Sainz with a contract for one year, which includes an option to extend for an additional year.
This gives Sainz the option to remain where he is or to seek a new opportunity in 2026 if he desires a position with Red Bull.
Williams' partnership with Mercedes, whose power unit is speculated to be the best under the new 2026 regulations according to F1 insiders, works to their advantage.
"The choice regarding Sainz's future is imminent," Gazzetta asserts.
