Remy Gardner Admits to First-Lap Hesitation in German MotoGP Sprint, Finishes Ahead of Joan Mir and Pedro Acosta
Remy Gardner confesses to feeling nervous during the first lap of the sprint race. He stated, “I lost my nerve a little, and Joan Mir and Johann Zarco overtook me once more.”
Remy Gardner put up a strong fight in the German MotoGP sprint, managing to cross the finish line just in front of Joan Mir and Pedro Acosta.
Gardner quickly advanced at the beginning, overtaking both Mir and his Honda teammate Johann Zarco.
However, the WorldSBK competitor, filling in for the injured Alex Rins this weekend, confessed that he 'got scared,' leading to a loss of positions.
Gardner explained, "I got off to a strong start, managing to gain a row on the grid, but as I approached the first corner… I didn't brake too late. Honestly, I hesitated a little, and that allowed Joan Mir and Johann Zarco to overtake me once more."
"I attempted to make a move in Turn 5, but I couldn't pull it off, and then Stefan Bradl overtook me."
"I lacked the burst of speed needed in the initial five laps to achieve strong lap times. Although I was able to maintain my pace afterwards, the others had already created a small lead."
"Absolutely, I gained a lot of insights from that Sprint race. I gathered some valuable information, and tomorrow I'll approach things with a fresh perspective. It will be a whole new experience."
Fabio Quartararo, a teammate, also faced challenges and finished in 13th place.
The Sachsenring was where Quartararo last won a MotoGP race in 2022. However, the French racer was not taken aback by his recent difficulties.
Quartararo mentioned, "We experimented with numerous aspects of the electronics. In the Sprint race, I followed a pack of riders and identified areas that require enhancement."
Regrettably, we haven’t found an immediate solution to progress further, but we are working on enhancements this weekend. I anticipated that this circuit would present challenges.
