Red Bull’s Dutch Dilemma: More Headaches Expected as F1 Action Resumes at Zandvoort
RB20 is expected to face additional challenges as the F1 summer break concludes at Zandvoort. "I don't anticipate a major fix happening in Zandvoort," someone stated.
Red Bull has expressed concerns about their prospects for this weekend's F1 Dutch Grand Prix.
The summer hiatus concludes at Zandvoort, where Max Verstappen is eager to break his streak of four races without a victory.
The recent performances of Mercedes and McLaren have posed challenges for Verstappen and Red Bull, and this trend might persist in the upcoming weekend.
In an interview with Speedweek, Helmut Marko from Red Bull mentioned that the two-week summer break means no work can be done on the car.
"We need to address our issues and identify the source of the problem, as our car's balance has changed compared to the first three races."
"However, predicting the speed of this development is challenging. I doubt that a major breakthrough will occur in Zandvoort."
“We engage in thorough brainstorming sessions and come up with multiple ideas. However, I can't yet confirm which ones we will put into action or how we will do so."
It’s evident that the outcome of qualifying at Zandvoort will be crucial, given that passing other cars on this track is extremely difficult.
"Max has a strong chance of performing well in the upcoming qualifying session, as he has shown impressive form in recent attempts."
"We were the quickest in Austria and Spa. In Hungary, we were just a few hundredths of a second off – so our complaints are really just nitpicking."
Red Bull has announced that Sergio Perez, teammate of Verstappen, will remain with the team at Zandvoort and in future races, despite recent criticisms and suggestions that he should be replaced due to his lackluster performance.
The constructors’ champions are currently focused on their RB20.
McLaren and Mercedes, their competitors, have gained an advantage in the off-track development race, and this progress has been evident in their on-track performance.
In their most recent race in Belgium, Red Bull switched their RB20 car's engine back to its original setup. They had previously introduced an updated engine during the race in Hungary.
Red Bull had to reconsider their strategy due to the intense aerodynamics at Spa, but they might face challenges once more at this weekend's F1 Dutch Grand Prix.
Mercedes secured victories in three out of the last four races, with Lewis Hamilton winning two and George Russell winning one.
