Red Bull Scraps Fan-Designed Liveries for Singapore and USA GPs Over Weight Concerns
Red Bull has scrapped their intention to feature fan-created liveries for their F1 cars in the races at Singapore and the USA, citing concerns about the weight.
Red Bull has scrapped their plans to use unique F1 car designs in the Singapore and United States races due to worries about the weight.
Red Bull asked their fans to come up with and design paint schemes for the RB20 car to be featured in three races this year.
The initial fan-created livery was showcased at the British Grand Prix, however, the intended designs for the Singapore and USA events have been cancelled.
Red Bull mentioned that these unique paint jobs would add extra weight, which would be a drawback.
In an effort to minimize weight, teams have started to reduce the amount of paint on their cars, leaving some areas with exposed carbon.
On Tuesday, they issued a statement saying, "When we reached the testing stage for some REBL CUSTMS designs on the RB20, we discovered that the paint applied for these custom full car liveries added unexpected and excessive weight to the RB20's bodywork."
As you might expect, extra weight affects performance, so the team is focusing on optimizing the car's competitiveness for the rest of the 2024 season.
"Consequently, it is with great regret that we inform you that the team has chosen not to feature the REBL CUSTMS liveries on the RB20 during the Singapore and United States Grand Prix events."
At the most recent Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Red Bull lost their top position in the F1 constructors' championship.
Although Sergio Perez was close to winning the race, he collided with Carlos Sainz and crashed just two laps before the finish.
Overall, the weekend turned out to be quite disappointing for Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen faced another defeat at the hands of his Formula 1 title contender, Lando Norris, narrowing the gap between them to just 59 points with seven races remaining.
Red Bull is likely to face another challenging weekend in Singapore.
