Red Bull Refutes Brundle’s Theory on Verstappen’s Zandvoort Performance, Eyes Comeback at Monza
Red Bull reacts to Martin Brundle's statement that "Max could go faster"
Martin Brundle believed that Max Verstappen was attempting to urge the factory to speed up.
Red Bull has refuted Martin Brundle's suggestion that Max Verstappen deliberately reduced his speed during last weekend's race at Zandvoort.
Lando Norris triumphed over Verstappen at the F1 Dutch Grand Prix, securing victory with a significant lead of 22 seconds.
Sky Sports commentator Brundle suggested, "I would venture to say that Max wasn't going as fast as he could."
"He realized he couldn't defeat Lando."
"Falling behind slightly like that will definitely prompt the factory to speed things up, I'm certain of it."
Red Bull's Helmut Marko has now shared his opinion.
Helmut Marko refuted Martin Brundle's claim that Max was intentionally driving at a reduced speed, stating to Speedweek that such an assertion is unfounded.
"However, once he noticed that Lando had already taken off, he decided not to take any further risks."
Kicking off at Monza this weekend for the F1 Italian Grand Prix, Red Bull is aware that they need to respond to McLaren's strong performance.
The gap in the constructors' championship has narrowed to 30 points, and Verstappen is now ahead of Norris by 70 points in the drivers' standings.
Marko emphasized the need to restore the car's balance, stating they are putting in significant effort but cannot precisely determine the timing or extent of the new additions.
“We need to regain our form, because up until the races in Shanghai or Suzuka, our car was outstanding and perfectly balanced."
“If we can achieve that once more, the drivers will regain their confidence, the car will have less slippage, and the tire wear will be more manageable.
"It's not just about discovering new components. What we really need is to regain the car's consistency that we had at the start of the season."
“The issue isn't related to the tuning; instead, something with the new parts has caused the balance to become problematic.”
"We'll observe the results at Monza, and I naturally anticipate that McLaren will perform well once more."
"I hope we can achieve greater equality and strive for success, because we have to acknowledge that in Zandvoort, we were completely outperformed."
“If the current situation persists, the championship is at risk.”
Marko expressed confidence that Red Bull will be able to resolve their recent issues.
The team's championship title could hinge on this outcome.
