Red Bull on the Offensive: Horner Vows to ‘Throw Everything’ at McLaren in F1 Title Battle
Red Bull has promised to aggressively challenge McLaren and give their all to reclaim the F1 title after losing their lead in the constructors' championship.
Following their slip in the F1 constructors’ championship standings, Christian Horner states that Red Bull needs to go on the offensive against McLaren.
In the constructors' rankings, McLaren has surpassed Red Bull after Oscar Piastri won the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix and Lando Norris made a remarkable comeback from 15th place on the starting grid to finish in fourth.
Max Verstappen faced a challenging race and ended up in fifth place. Meanwhile, his teammate Sergio Perez was involved in a dramatic crash with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz towards the end, which resulted in Red Bull losing crucial points.
With Red Bull transitioning from being the team to beat to now chasing their rivals, they currently trail McLaren by 20 points. Team principal Horner emphasized that the team must now put all their efforts into their campaign to retain the constructors' championship.
Horner admitted that their team suffered a major setback in the constructors' standings today. "We're now trailing by 20 points, so we need to go on the offensive," he stated.
"There are still seven more races left, including two sprint races. With many points still available and various tracks ahead, the competition is far from decided."
"We're giving it our all. Instead of playing defensively, we're now on the offensive. This shifts the dynamics, and we're going to put everything we've got into it."
For the third race in a row, Verstappen's lead in the championship shrank, with Norris closing the gap by earning three more points, bringing the difference down to 59 points.
Horner confessed that it was "annoying" that Verstappen was unable to surpass Norris after his poor performance in the Baku qualifying session.
Horner expressed frustration, noting that considering their performance in Monza, it was disappointing not to surpass Lando today, especially given his qualifying position.
"Fortunately, he hasn't earned a lot of points. We need to use the knowledge we've gained so far and remember that there are many races ahead."
