Ralf Schumacher targets another F1 team over Mick Schumacher snub
Ralf Schumacher has criticized another Formula 1 team for not considering his nephew Mick Schumacher while searching for a new driver.
After previously criticizing Alpine for overlooking Mick, Ralf has now raised concerns about Williams.
Williams has decided to drop Logan Sargeant for the last nine races of the 2024 season, bringing in Franco Colapinto to take his place. Colapinto will make his Formula 1 debut at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.
Former Williams F1 driver Ralf, as quoted by Sky Germany, suggested that the choice might be understandable since Colapinto is part of Williams' youth development program.
“However, from a performance perspective, I find it illogical and impractical."
"The danger for both the racing team and the driver is significantly greater compared to if they had chosen someone experienced, like Mick."
At the close of 2022, Mick was let go from his position with Haas. Since then, he has dedicated two years to working his way back in hopes of rejoining Formula 1
He has served as Mercedes' reserve driver for the past two years, and Toto Wolff supported his bid to temporarily drive for Williams following Sargeant's difficulties last weekend.
However, Williams team principal James Vowles decided against choosing Schumacher or Red Bull backup driver Liam Lawson, instead opting for an internal candidate.
This marks Mick Schumacher's second disappointment in just a few days.
Alpine announced last week that newcomer Jack Doohan will fill the 2025 racing position left open by Esteban Ocon.
This year, Mick has been a representative for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship.
Mick and Doohan both had the opportunity to test out Alpine F1 cars, but it was Doohan who received the approval to join the grid as a full-time driver for the upcoming season.
Mick claimed that he discovered the unfortunate news through Instagram, and his uncle Ralf responded by saying, "this is absolutely not the right way."
