President Xi Jinping Champions Cultural Heritage and Environmental Sustainability on Gansu Tour
During his four-day visit to the historic Gansu region, China's President Xi Jinping prioritized cultural preservation and ecological concerns. Throughout the tour, he stressed the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage and the environment while advocating for more profound reforms.
During his visit to Gansu province from Tuesday to Friday, Xi emphasized the need for enhanced protection and oversight of the region’s natural scenery, including mountains, forests, agricultural lands, and water bodies.
During a visit to Lanzhou, the provincial capital, on Wednesday, Xi encouraged the local people to "take responsibility in collectively safeguarding the Yellow River to ensure that it remains a blessing for future generations," state news agency Xinhua reported.
Field visits have been a traditional approach for Chinese officials to underscore their policy focuses. Prior to his presidency in 2013 and once more in 2019, Xi had previously visited Gansu on two occasions to emphasize this practice.
