President Xi Jinping Champions Cultural Heritage and Ecological Conservation in Gansu Tour
During a four-day trip to Gansu province, China's President Xi Jinping focused on cultural preservation and ecological conservation, stressing the importance of these alongside broader reforms.
During his visit to Gansu province from Tuesday to Friday, Xi emphasized the need for enhanced preservation and administration of the region's natural scenery, including mountains, forests, agricultural lands, and water resources.
During his visit to Lanzhou, the provincial capital, on Wednesday, Xi encouraged locals to actively participate in safeguarding the Yellow River, emphasizing the importance of preserving this vital waterway for the benefit of future generations, as reported by the state-run Xinhua news agency.
Field visits have traditionally been a strategy among Chinese political figures to emphasize their policy focuses. Before assuming the presidency in 2013 and once more in 2019, Xi had previously traveled to Gansu on two occasions to conduct such inspections.
