Porsche Confirms Departure from F1 Plans After Red Bull Deal Falls Through
Porsche clarifies F1 involvement following shelved Red Bull project
Porsche has given a status update on their potential entry into Formula 1.
Porsche has unequivocally decided against entering Formula 1.
The powerful producer had earlier experienced a collapse in negotiations with Red Bull.
Porsche was set to acquire a 50% stake in the Red Bull F1 team and its Powertrains project, but the deal fell through due to unresolved issues.
Despite the introduction of the 2026 regulations, Porsche has clearly stated their plans.
"It's not an option," said motorsport chief Thomas Laudenbach, as reported by Motorsport.
"Currently, Formula 1 is not our focus, and we are not dedicating any resources to it."
“We participate in various levels of customer racing, ranging from track days and GT4 to one-make series and professional GT competitions.
"In addition, we are competing in the two premier endurance racing series alongside our partner Penske."
"The final aspect, given the significance of electrifying our brand, involves our participation in Formula E, the premier all-electric racing series."
"I believe we are receiving excellent service."
Porsche's most recent participation in Formula 1 was in 1991 when they provided engines for the Footwork team.
In 2022, Volkswagen announced that their subsidiaries Porsche and Audi were keen on joining Formula 1.
However, the collaboration between Porsche and Red Bull was called off. Christian Horner referred to it as a “strategic misalignment.”
Red Bull has teamed up with Ford for the 2026 season, and Audi is set to make its full entry into Formula 1 that same year.
