Pol Espargaro Confirmed for Austrian MotoGP Wildcard: A Boost for KTM Amidst Competitive Struggles
Pol Espargaro Set for Austrian MotoGP Wildcard Appearance
Pol Espargaro is scheduled to make his season's second wildcard appearance in the MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring.
Pol Espargaro is set to join KTM's official racers, Brad Binder and Jack Miller, in the Austrian MotoGP event scheduled for August.
Now in his debut season as a KTM test rider, Pol Espargaro participated in his season's first wildcard event at Mugello.
KTM has lagged behind Ducati and Aprilia in recent races, so having an additional fifth rider at their home grand prix will provide a boost as they seek to enhance their performance.
Espargaro has a history of competing for top spots at the Red Bull Ring, having nearly clinched a win there in 2020.
Espargaro is set to compete for the official KTM squad, teaming up with Binder and Miller.
Talking about his impending wildcard entry, Espargaro shared, "I'm eager to hit the track once more! Returning at Mugello was a unique experience with Red Bull KTM, yet the excitement is just as unparalleled at the Red Bull Ring."
"Considering the circuit, the location, the supporters, and the ambiance, along with the significant importance this Grand Prix holds for KTM, it similarly feels somewhat like a home event for myself."
"I hold cherished recollections of battling for victory in that location, yet, similar to our experiences in Italy, our objective will be to hit the circuit with the KTM RC16 and proceed with our testing agenda."
"There's tasks ahead of us, but I'm certain the Austrian Grand Prix is going to be an enjoyable experience."
The MotoGP event in Austria is scheduled for the 16th to the 18th
