Northamptonshire Police Clear Mercedes of Wrongdoing in Lewis Hamilton ‘Sabotage’ Email Investigation
Authorities inform Mercedes that no crimes were committed regarding the Lewis Hamilton ‘sabotage’ email
Northamptonshire Police have conveyed to Mercedes that their probe into the email alleging sabotage against Lewis Hamilton has found no criminal activity.
The Northamptonshire Police have informed the Mercedes F1 team that their investigation into an email alleging sabotage against Lewis Hamilton found no evidence of any crime.
One day following the Canadian Grand Prix, on June 10, an unnamed individual who purported to be part of the Mercedes team alleged that the organization intentionally undermined Hamilton's performance.
The email alleged that the team was endangering Hamilton's life.
During the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, Toto Wolff revealed that the letter was not from a team member but from a disgruntled Hamilton supporter.
Wolff also disclosed that they had filed a report with the police requesting an investigation.
"It's not from someone on our team," Wolff stated. "Receiving emails like these, and we receive a lot of them, is distressing, especially when they involve discussions of death and similar topics."
Wolff labeled the individual who sent the email as a "conspiracy theorist" and described them as a "lunatic" due to the allegations made.
A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police issued this statement on Tuesday afternoon.
A representative stated: "On June 12, Northamptonshire Police were notified about an email that had been distributed among the members of the Mercedes AMG F1 Team.
No crimes were identified, but guidance was provided on how to handle any future emails the team might get.
Hamilton had his most successful weekend of the season to date in Barcelona.
Aged 39, he secured third place, marking his first podium finish of the year, during another strong weekend for Mercedes.
Following the race, Wolff restated his earlier position.
He expressed his disdain for conspiracy theorists, stating, "I have absolutely no respect for them because they lack intelligence. Our goal is to have a car that wins races and championships, and if someone doesn't understand that, they should follow a different sport."
"It's encouraging to witness Lewis having an excellent weekend, especially since it's been some time where circumstances and strategy have favored others over him."
"However, luck was on his side today, so I'm pleased we secured that podium finish for him since it's been some time."
