**Nico Hulkenberg Addresses Unexpected Audi F1 Shake-Up, Remains Confident in Future Prospects**
Nico Hulkenberg describes the Audi F1 exits as "surprising" but remains "unworried" about what's to come. "It was certainly a surprising turn of events, but now we're focused on moving forward."
Nico Hulkenberg has acknowledged that Audi's recent changes in their Formula 1 management came as a surprise.
At the beginning of the week, Audi revealed that former Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto will lead their Formula 1 team, following the exits of Andreas Seidl and Oliver Hoffmann.
Seidl held the position of CEO at Sauber, whereas Hoffmann served as the chairman of the board of directors.
Sources indicated that a conflict over authority between the two individuals led to Audi's choice to implement a change.
The duo played a key role in securing Hulkenberg's move to the team, which he will be joining next year after leaving Haas.
While talking to the press in Belgium, where Crash.net has a presence in the paddock, Hulkenberg discussed the recent developments at Audi.
"Certainly, they had a significant impact; these were the two individuals with whom we made the agreement," he stated.
"So, that’s the situation—an unforeseen shift. However, Gernot Donner personally told me about the group's decision on the day it was announced. The group decided they want to take a new direction going forward."
For major undertakings like this, the management typically includes key individuals who serve as crucial support for the project. However, they never depend solely on one or two people. In Formula 1, everyone is somewhat interchangeable.
“I’m familiar with Mattia from our previous interactions in the paddock, though we’ve never collaborated professionally. However, that is set to change in the coming months.”
Hulkenberg dismissed claims that the modifications indicated "instability" in the project.
"I'm not worried," he said. "It was definitely a surprise and a bit of a jolt. But now, we're back to work. I'm still excited to join the project and make it a success, regardless of the fact that the two key people who were instrumental in bringing me on board are no longer involved."
"While it might be a little disappointing, my primary focus is on the project, partnering with Audi in Formula 1, and ensuring its success."
Hulkenberg also thinks that the timing of the choice indicates that Audi is "deeply engaged" and "committed to it".
He explained that the CEO of Audi and the entire team are closely monitoring the situation. Their proactive approach indicates their deep involvement and commitment, which he believes is very encouraging news.
