Mercedes Targets Key Upgrades Amidst Uncertain Hungarian GP Conditions as F1 Battle Intensifies
Mercedes cannot compete for wins consistently each weekend as they aim for more Formula 1 enhancements.
"Nonetheless, we acknowledge that our current car isn't capable of contending for victories on a regular basis."
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has disclosed that his squad is putting in significant effort to develop additional enhancements aimed at boosting the W15's Formula 1 performance before the summer hiatus in August.
Mercedes has shown remarkable progress in the latest races, with an upgrade in Monaco appearing to have revitalized their season.
The team has secured victories in two races and is strongly competing against Red Bull and McLaren.
In their last outing at Silverstone, Mercedes secured the top two positions in qualifying and led the initial phase of the race under dry weather conditions.
In anticipation of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, Mercedes has announced additional improvements are in the pipeline.
“We approach the next two races with confidence,” stated Wolff. “We've been consistently improving the W15 in the latest races, which has resulted in notable performances in Austria and Silverstone.”
"Nonetheless, we recognize that our current car isn't capable of competing for wins on a regular basis. Our team is putting in a lot of effort to introduce performance improvements that we believe will help us achieve that goal."
“The team will persist with these efforts throughout the upcoming two races and all the way until operations cease.”
Mercedes is uncertain if they can replicate their Silverstone performance at the Hungary track because the conditions are notably different.
Throughout the weekend in Hungary, temperatures are predicted to surpass 30 degrees, contrasting sharply with the weather conditions at the British Grand Prix.
Evaluating Mercedes' prospects in Hungary, Wolff commented: "The Hungaroring has a distinct character compared to the recent tracks we've seen. Unlike Silverstone, it has many narrow and winding segments, with only one significant straightaway."
The track also features several high-speed turns, which will serve as another valuable test of our improvements in cornering speed. As we approach the weekend, our primary objective is to perform at our highest level.
"Our aim is to keep this upward momentum and conclude the first half of the season on a high note."
