McLaren Surpasses Red Bull at Dutch GP: Horner Admits ‘Different League’ Performance
Christian Horner acknowledges McLaren's superiority at Zandvoort, stating they were "on another level."
Red Bull's team leader, Christian Horner, mentioned that McLaren's speed was on another level during the F1 Dutch Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen initially overtook Lando Norris to lead the race, but Norris retaliated, securing his second major victory in a commanding fashion at the Zandvoort circuit.
On Lap 18, Norris swiftly overtook Verstappen and then effortlessly extended his lead. By the time they reached the finish line, the British driver had established a substantial lead of almost 23 seconds ahead of Verstappen.
Horner acknowledged that Red Bull was unable to match McLaren's speed.
"He offered his congratulations to McLaren and Lando, noting to Sky Sports that their car was on another level today."
"We gave it our all. Max managed to turn the second position into a lead, but it was evident that their speed was on another level. There's a lot of work ahead of us.
"We've gained some significant insights this weekend, which are truly beneficial. Checo put in a strong performance. Now, we need to process the events of this weekend. Securing second place was about minimizing the impact, and we're looking to make a comeback in Monza."
In response to inquiries about whether Red Bull has any improvements planned to recapture their competitive edge after experiencing a five-race winless streak, Horner stated, "It's crucial for us to pinpoint where we're falling short. This weekend has been quite informative for us."
"However, it's evident that their speed on this circuit was exceptional. Thus, we must figure out ways to enhance our vehicle's capability."
Norris has reduced Verstappen's lead in the championship to 70 points, while McLaren is now only 30 points away from the current world champions, Red Bull, in the team standings.
"Horner acknowledged, 'Their speed today… nothing is guaranteed.'"
"We continue to maintain a solid advantage in the drivers' standings. However, in the team rankings, we've seen another significant reduction in points today."
"We will need to react, and I am assured that we possess the necessary robustness to achieve it."
