McLaren Harmony: Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris Celebrate 1-2 Finish with Cheeky McDonald’s Feast
No tension at McLaren as Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris celebrate with a visit to McDonald's.
"While waiting, we grabbed some McDonald's. I had a Big Mac."
There's no discomfort at McLaren as Oscar Piastri marked his first F1 win in a unique way – by visiting McDonald's.
Piastri secured his inaugural Formula 1 win at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, closely followed by Lando Norris.
Australia's inaugural victory came under somewhat contentious conditions, as Norris had to yield his position to Piastri, who had gained the lead during the second set of pit stops.
Piastri was in the lead until lap 48, but McLaren opted to bring Norris into the pits first to counter Lewis Hamilton's strategy.
Norris executing the undercut maneuver resulted in a reversal of their positions.
Subsequently, McLaren had to plead with Norris to relinquish his position, and he ultimately complied.
The duo's bond appears to remain strong, as evidenced by Norris marking their 1-2 achievement with a visit to McDonald's.
Piastri's celebrations were subdued because his travel arrangements were postponed.
Discussing his celebrations after the race, Piastri told Fox Sports, "Our flight from Budapest was heavily delayed."
“We were on a flight with some of the drivers, including Lando and Alex Albon, among others. During the delay, we grabbed some McDonald’s. I went for a Big Mac.”
"It was pretty low-key, just a few Formula 1 drivers grabbing some burgers and nuggets. We played Monopoly during the flight back. Everything was fine, except that Alex Albon gave us a few Monopoly lessons."
“I arrived home at 5:00am, and that was the extent of the celebrations. It wasn’t exactly the most exciting afterparty, to be honest.”
Piastri emphasized the advancements he has achieved as a driver over the last year, especially in managing tyre wear.
In the initial phase of the race, Piastri maintained his position at the forefront after seizing the lead from second place on the starting grid.
Looking back on his performance, he remarked: "Honestly, I was delighted with both the victory and the outcome, but I was equally proud of how I positioned myself to achieve it. I had a great start and a very strong first half of the race."
Reflecting on my performance in Hungary last year, I must admit it was a disastrous race due to my poor management. However, I felt incredibly proud of how drastically things turned around within a year. I was overjoyed to be the first to cross the finish line.
