Max Verstappen’s Future at Red Bull in Doubt: Potential Departure Looms for 2025
"Max Verstappen may still leave Red Bull after the 2025 season.
The potential exit of Max Verstappen from Red Bull remains a widely discussed topic."
Rumors indicate that Max Verstappen may potentially part ways with Red Bull by the end of the next season.
Seasoned BBC Formula 1 correspondent Andrew Benson reports that Verstappen has no plans to depart from Red Bull this year.
Max Verstappen remains the leader of the drivers' championship standings, even though he hasn't secured a victory in the past three races.
The Dutch driver’s anger reached its peak at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but for the moment, Verstappen remains dedicated.
The situation changes when considering the end of 2025.
If Red Bull fails to provide a championship-winning car in 2025, Verstappen could consider departing the team.
He will need to think about 2026 and determine which team will possess the most powerful engine.
In his post-race question and answer session, Benson discussed what lies ahead for Verstappen.
A source informed BBC Sport that Verstappen is not currently thinking about departing Red Bull after this season, although he may consider it in 2025.
“Verstappen is under contract with Red Bull through the conclusion of 2028. Additionally, an option that could have allowed him to depart has been eliminated.”
An event that took place during the Hungary weekend involved a provision in Verstappen's contract that pertains to Helmut Marko.
In summary, Verstappen would have the liberty to depart if Marko decided to exit.
This provision has been taken out, and Marko has pledged to stay with the team through to the conclusion of 2026.
However, there are still opportunities for Verstappen to exit Red Bull.
According to BBC Sport, it has been revealed that there are additional elements in his contract that could allow his departure under specific conditions, including clauses tied to the car's and the team's performance, Benson reported.
"Naturally, the specifics of the contract are confidential, making it impossible to be fully informed about them."
This story is expected to persist, especially if Verstappen's championship lead narrows considerably.
