Max Verstappen Sounds Alarm: Red Bull’s Kerb-Riding Issues No Quick Fix Amid Budget Cap Constraints
Max Verstappen cautions that Red Bull's problems won't be solved quickly despite the "wake-up call."
Max Verstappen has indicated that Red Bull's issues don't have an easy solution.
Max Verstappen cautioned that addressing Red Bull's issues with navigating kerbs and bumps "requires time" after a challenging Monaco Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen's sixth-place finish in Monaco marked his poorest on-track performance since the São Paulo Grand Prix in 2022.
The outcome has reduced his advantage in the championship rankings to a mere 31 points over Charles Leclerc.
This weekend, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is anticipated to be unfavorable for the RB20, as navigating the kerbs is crucial for maintaining speed in Canada.
Verstappen thinks that Red Bull will eventually overcome their main weakness, but it will require some time.
"This isn't exactly our top choice, but we're putting in the effort to improve it," Verstappen stated while in Canada.
"This issue requires time to address; it won't be resolved in just a week. However, we are committed to making improvements. The problem has persisted since the new regulations were introduced, and we haven't managed to resolve it so far."
"Monaco served as another reminder for us, prompting several productive meetings at the factory. I believe there's now increased determination to make improvements."
"You can't depend on your advantage, even if the curb-riding is problematic. It definitely needs to be addressed, but making significant changes to the car takes time."
Verstappen suggested that limitations imposed by the budget cap could affect the speed at which Red Bull can address their issues, indicating that it might take until next year for them to fully resolve the problem.
"There are certain elements that are created and may need to be re-created, and it's not feasible to do this within a week or two due to the budget constraints," Verstappen explained.
"We have the potential to perform well this year if everything goes according to plan. However, right now, we need to experiment with a few strategies to determine which ones are most effective."
"Certainly, I believe certain aspects will change next year, which might be harder to revamp this year – but I remain optimistic and assured that we can improve our performance this year itself."
