Max Verstappen Hints at Retirement: Reflects on Career Ahead of 200th Grand Prix
Max Verstappen hints at a limited future in F1 as he speaks before the Dutch Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen has dismissed the idea of participating in an additional 200 F1 races, giving a significant clue regarding his potential retirement timeline.
The driver from Red Bull is set to compete in his 200th Grand Prix during his home event in Zandvoort, yet he expressed uncertainty about his prolonged future in F1, suggesting he has surpassed the "midpoint" of his career.
Verstappen has an agreement with Red Bull that lasts until the close of 2028, yet he suggested that his racing career might not extend past that point.
When questioned about his presence in the sport for an additional 200 races before the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend, the three-time world champion promptly responded, “No. Simple as that."
“Certainly, we’ve crossed the midpoint, and it’s been an amazing journey so far. Honestly, it doesn’t seem like we’ve hit 200, but given the number of races we participate in annually, the tally increases rapidly.”
The individual, aged 26, has expressed in the past that he does not plan to pursue his Formula 1 career into his late thirties.
When probed more intensely about the subject and if his present contract might be his final one in Formula 1, the Dutch driver remarked, "Certainly, 28 is a long way off, but currently, I'm not contemplating signing another contract."
"I'm eager to observe how things unfold. I also want to review the updated rules to determine if they're enjoyable. Moreover, there's ample time to make decisions, even in 2026 or 2027."
"I maintain an open stance on things but I'm pretty relaxed about it all."
Verstappen continues to hold a commanding lead in the race for his fourth straight drivers' championship, currently outpacing McLaren's Lando Norris by 78 points with 10 races remaining.
"When asked about the standout moment of his career to date, he stated, 'Truly, it's securing a victory in my inaugural race.'"
Reaching the top of the podium in F1 is an incredibly emotional experience, something you fantasize about as a child. The moment you find yourself standing there, on the highest step, feels truly extraordinary.
"Securing my initial title, moments like these. These are remarkable achievements I'll reflect on fondly after retiring, two standout memories."
