Max Verstappen Hints at F1 Future: Rules Out Another 200 Races Ahead of Dutch Grand Prix
Max Verstappen dismisses the idea of participating in 200 more races as he hints at his future in Formula 1
Max Verstappen expressed uncertainty about his long-term career in Formula 1 before the Dutch Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen has dismissed the idea of participating in an additional 200 Formula 1 races, suggesting when he might consider ending his career.
The Red Bull racer is set to participate in his 200th grand prix at his home circuit in Zandvoort, though he has expressed uncertainty about his long-term future in Formula 1, stating that he believes he has already passed the midpoint of his career.
Max Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull that lasts until the end of 2028, but he has suggested that he might not continue racing after that point.
When questioned about the possibility of staying on for another 200 races before the upcoming Dutch Grand Prix, the three-time world champion promptly responded, “No. Simple as that.
"We've definitely crossed the midpoint, and it's already been an amazing journey. It doesn't seem like we've reached 200, but with the number of races we're competing in each year, they add up fast."
The 26-year-old has previously mentioned that he does not plan to keep racing in Formula 1 beyond his late 30s.
When asked for more details on the matter and if his current contract might be his final one in Formula 1, the Dutch driver responded: “Naturally, 2028 feels distant, but right now, I’m not considering a new deal.”
"I simply want to observe the situation and review the new rules to determine if they are enjoyable. After that, there's plenty of time in 2026 or 2027 to make any decisions about the future."
"I remain flexible and open to possibilities, adopting a relaxed approach."
Verstappen is well-placed to secure his fourth straight drivers’ championship this season, holding a 78-point lead over McLaren’s Lando Norris with 10 races remaining.
When questioned about the most memorable moment of his career to date, he candidly replied that it was winning his debut race.
"It's always incredibly moving because as a child, you dream of standing on the F1 podium, and being at the very top is just something truly unique."
“Securing your initial championship and similar achievements. These moments will always stand out as remarkable when I reflect on my career, two key highlights.”
