Max Verstappen Baffled by Red Bull’s Q3 Struggles at Monza: ‘Not Very Driveable
Max Verstappen is puzzled by Red Bull's issues in Q3, describing the car as "not very driveable."
"It's really hard to handle and difficult to achieve a good balance," he said.
Max Verstappen is at a loss to explain Red Bull's underwhelming performance during the qualifying session for the F1 Italian Grand Prix.
At Monza, Verstappen faced challenges that led to him qualifying in seventh place, marking his poorest performance in qualifying since the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix.
The Dutch driver posted slower lap times in both of his Q3 attempts compared to his times on worn tyres during Q2.
Tomorrow might turn out to be a catastrophic day for Verstappen and Red Bull in the championship, considering McLaren has secured the top two spots on the starting grid.
In an interview with Sky Sports following the session, Verstappen remarked, "Driving is extremely challenging, and achieving a good balance is tough. When you solve one problem, it often creates another."
"The car wasn't really suitable for driving, to put it mildly. While the performance in Q2 wasn't terrible, things took a turn for the worse in Q3. The car felt off again, and I experienced significant understeer with both sets of tires, which I can't figure out. This cost me a lot of time on my laps."
"You can't navigate the corners directly; you need to use a v-style approach, but it’s ineffective. I'm having a lot of trouble with this, and I don't know why right now."
Verstappen is skeptical about Red Bull's chances of making a comeback in the race, as their car lacks proper balance.
He mentioned that none of his extended practice sessions were encouraging. He explained that the main issue lies in the car's imbalance, which makes it tough on the tires.
"Things get even more challenging during the race. I expect the same to occur tomorrow."
Verstappen is presently leading the championship standings by a margin of 70 points over Lando Norris.
When questioned regarding the current status of the championship race, Verstappen commented: "The recent races haven’t gone well.
"We need to make a serious effort to improve and become more competitive."
