Mattia Binotto Joins Audi F1 as Andreas Seidl Exits in Major Shake-Up
Mattia Binotto is making a comeback to Formula 1 with Audi, following the exit of Andreas Seidl. The ex-Ferrari chief will rejoin the racing world under the Audi banner.
Ex-Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto is set to make a comeback to Formula 1 as the head of Audi's team.
On Tuesday, Audi announced that Binotto has joined their team amid significant changes in their management structure. This move comes as Sauber CEO Andreas Seidl and ex-board chairman Oliver Hoffmann depart from the company.
Binotto, aged 54, has been out of the Formula 1 scene since leaving Ferrari at the close of 2022. Starting August 1, he will officially take on the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer at Audi. His main task will be to lead the project as the German company prepares to enter Formula 1 in 2026.
Audi's Chief Executive Officer, Gernot Doellner, expressed his excitement about bringing Mattia Binotto on board for their ambitious Formula 1 initiative.
Given his over 25 years of experience in Formula 1, he is certain to significantly contribute to Audi's success.
"Our goal is to accelerate the entire Formula 1 initiative by implementing clear management frameworks, well-defined roles, streamlined communication channels, and effective decision-making procedures."
"In order to achieve this goal, the team needs to operate autonomously and swiftly."
As reported by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, Mike Krack, the current head of Aston Martin, might become part of the Audi team.
In 2026, Audi is set to assume control of the Sauber-managed team. The Switzerland-headquartered team is having a tough season in 2024 and remains the only team without a point so far this year.
