Marc Marquez Reveals Why He Rejected Ducati’s Initial Contract Clause: A Bold Move Shakes Up MotoGP Line-Up
Marc Marquez reveals the reason for declining the first Ducati contract condition

Marc Marquez has explained the reasons behind his decision to reject the original contract offer from Ducati.
Next year, Marquez is set to transition from Gresini to the official Ducati team.
Consequently, Jorge Martin from Pramac will join Aprilia's roster of riders for the 2025 MotoGP season.
Initially, Ducati presented Martin with the desirable factory position, but there was a condition attached: should Marquez secure the championship title this year, he would be automatically advanced to the official team, leaving Martin out.
Martin agreed to the conditions, but Marquez refused.
For what reason
“It’s straightforward,” he clarified to AS.
"One primary reason is that, to compete fairly on the track, everyone must have equal resources."
“And now they are gone.”
Marquez was talking about the year-old Ducati motorcycle he is riding for the Gresini team.
Martin, along with his main competitors Pecco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini, are equipped with the most up-to-date machines.
“It doesn’t justify it,” stated Marquez.
“I am demonstrating my ability to compete."
"Additionally, I made it very clear that I would not be switching from one satellite team to another."
"The third point is that athletes have more than just sports contracts; they also have sponsorship deals. These sponsors have supported me throughout my career. A multinational company is finalizing a deal in September that will last for the next two years, and they can't afford to delay. It was impractical."
Marquez emphasized that moving to Pramac, which could have provided him with a GP25, was not an option he found acceptable. This surprising position compelled Ducati to reverse their initial plan of offering Martin the factory bike for the next season.
The ongoing battle for this year’s championship, currently headed by Martin, will now unfold with the added twist of Martin joining Aprilia and Marquez switching to the factory Ducati team in 2025.
