What if Gigi Dall’Igna departed from Ducati? Marc Marquez: “I’d definitely ask him where he plans to go…”
Marc Marquez highlights the critical role of Gigi Dall'Igna
Marc Marquez has articulated that Gigi Dall’Igna's involvement is crucial to his decision to join Ducati.
In 2025, Marquez will join the official team, giving Ducati a star-studded roster of riders under the guidance of an exceptional engineer.
Marquez insisted on confirming Dall'Igna's commitment to remaining with Ducati prior to finalizing his new agreement.
He mentioned to AS that his relationship with Gigi has always been straightforward and honest.
"I joined Ducati because of Gigi Dall'Igna. He is the engineer whose projects have consistently achieved success."
In our initial conversations, I emphasized to him, "What matters most to me about 2025 and 2026 is that you're still with Ducati, correct?"
"If that's not the case, then there's no point in us even sitting down."
"Why? Because it's the Corsica region."
"When you become part of the Ducati family, you will truly experience the essence of its colors, but this isn't possible beforehand."
"You experience them only after you've gone in, not before."
"He stated that their decisions were solely based on their observations on the track, their progress, and their potential for future improvement."
Marquez was questioned about his potential actions if Dall’Igna had no plans to remain with Ducati.
"It varies," he replied.
"Different things would have been appreciated."
“I might have inquired, ‘What’s your destination?’”
"Gigi has played a crucial role, consistently present as the leader."
"In 2017 and 2018, we communicated and our exchanges were consistently straightforward."
During that period, I instructed them not to present me with any proposals since I was content at Honda and didn't want to engage in a bidding war to see who would offer me more.
“When I am certain about something, I follow my instincts, and my instincts led me to Ducati.”
Marquez has acknowledged that he needs to compete for the MotoGP championship in 2025, equipped with a GP25.
This year, he is still competing for the title as a Gresini rider on last year's bike, but he will join Ducati's official team for at least two seasons afterward to aim for his seventh MotoGP championship.
