Lucid Air Faces Twin Recalls Over Power Loss and Heater Defects: What Owners Need to Know
Lucid Motors has announced a pair of recall notices concerning their Air model electric vehicles.
There are two separate recalls underway, one due to a software glitch that may lead to power loss, and another because of a potentially defective coolant heater.
According to an announcement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on June 28, there's a concern regarding the high-voltage coolant heater, which may malfunction and cause problems with defrosting the windshield. The recall, labeled as campaign number 24V-495 by the NHTSA, impacts a total of 7,506 vehicles from model years 2022 to 2024. Lucid Motors approximates that about 1% of the recalled vehicles might possess this flaw.
Lucid has launched an automatic software update which will detect and notify car owners of any issues with the high-voltage coolant heater. In case of a malfunction, Lucid has committed to replacing the faulty part at no cost. Owners can expect to receive a letter informing them of this on August 9th.
Lucid has announced a recall for a different issue affecting 5,251 of its 2022 and 2023 Air models. It's believed that only about 1% of the cars involved in this recall actually have the defect. Lucid explains that a problem could occur where the vehicle's software may cut off the high-voltage connectors due to a communication error in the hardware. If this happens while the car is being driven, it could suddenly lose its ability to propel, increasing the chances of an accident.
