Luca Marini Voices Preference for Experienced MotoGP Rider Over Toprak Razgatlioglu Amid 2025 Repsol Honda Team Speculations
Luca Marini dismisses the notion of Toprak Razgatlioglu moving to Honda
Luca Marini questioned about potential 2025 Repsol Honda teammate.
Luca Marini, who is in the initial year of his two-year agreement with Repsol Honda, has highlighted his positive relationship with Joan Mir, describing him as a pleasant individual. He expressed his desire for Mir to remain with the team for the 2025 MotoGP season.
Despite experiencing yet another challenging season, 2020 world champion Mir maintains that his top choice is to stay with the factory Honda team, though an official announcement regarding a contract renewal has not been made.
Should negotiations between Mir and Honda not succeed, Marini suggests that opting for a rider with established MotoGP credentials would be preferable over considering WorldSBK sensation Toprak Razgatlioglu.
Razgatlioglu has captivated the motorcycle community by propelling BMW to the forefront of the Superbike championship in his inaugural season with the company, sparking fresh speculation about a potential MotoGP transition.
Manager Kenan Sofuoglu has consistently stated that a move would only occur with a factory MotoGP team, leaving Honda as the final opportunity for 2025. This comes as the European teams are already filled, and Alex Rins is anticipated to sign a renewal with Monster Yamaha.
However, Sofuoglu has minimized the likelihood of Razgatlioglu switching to MotoGP next season, and Marini believes that Honda, which is currently at the lowest rank in the constructors' standings, would benefit more from bringing in a seasoned rider if Mir departs.
"Absolutely not," Marini declared to GPone.com in response to inquiries about Razgatlioglu and Honda. "Should we consider bringing in a rider, it would be intriguing to opt for someone from Aprilia or KTM, as they could contribute additional expertise."
"I might serve as a case in point, coming from Ducati. With that in mind, if a new rider were to join, they need to possess technical skills, be capable of exchanging information, and provide feedback in a manner that is comprehensible."
Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira, seasoned riders with KTM/Aprilia, have yet to have their participation confirmed for the 2025 season.
