Luca Marini Rejects Toprak Razgatlioglu for Honda, Advocates for Experienced MotoGP Talent as 2025 Team-Mate
Luca Marini dismisses the possibility of Toprak Razgatlioglu moving to Honda
Luca Marini questioned about his potential team-mate at Repsol Honda for 2025.
Luca Marini, who is in the initial year of his two-year contract with Repsol Honda, highlighted his good relationship with Joan Mir. He described Mir as a pleasant individual and expressed his desire for Mir to remain with the team for the 2025 MotoGP season.
Even after a challenging season, 2020 world champion Mir emphasizes that staying with the factory Honda team is his main goal, though no contract renewal has been confirmed so far.
Should Mir and Honda be unable to come to terms, Marini believes it would be wiser to contract a rider who has demonstrated MotoGP experience, instead of targeting WorldSBK standout Toprak Razgatlioglu.
In his first season with BMW, Razgatlioglu has amazed the motorcycle community by taking the lead in the Superbike championship, sparking renewed speculation about a potential switch to MotoGP.
Manager Kenan Sofuoglu has consistently emphasized that a deal would only be made with a factory MotoGP team. For 2025, Honda emerges as the final possibility since all European teams have reached their capacity and Monster Yamaha is anticipated to extend Alex Rins' contract.
Sofuoglu has minimized the likelihood of Razgatlioglu making a move to MotoGP next season, while Marini believes that Honda, currently at the bottom of the constructors' standings, would benefit more from having an experienced rider if Mir departs.
Marini firmly responded "I say no!" when GPone.com inquired about Razgatlioglu and Honda. He added that if a new rider were to join, it would be more intriguing to have someone from Aprilia or KTM, as they would contribute additional expertise.
"I might serve as an illustration of this, considering my background with Ducati. Nonetheless, if a new rider joins, it is essential that they are knowledgeable, capable of conveying details, and providing feedback in a clear and comprehensible manner."
Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira, seasoned riders for KTM and Aprilia respectively, have yet to secure their positions for the 2025 season.
