According to reports, Liberty Media, the owners of Formula 1, requested that Red Bull rethink their decision to release Sergio Perez in the middle of the season, due to concerns that it might negatively impact revenue at the Mexico City Grand
As reported by F1-Insider, Liberty Media requested that Red Bull retain Sergio Perez as Max Verstappen's teammate to maintain the popularity of the Mexico City Grand Prix in October.
Sources indicate that Liberty Media, the owner of Formula 1 rights, has urged Red Bull to rethink their decision to let Perez go.
“Concerns arose over a significant decline in ticket sales for the Mexican Grand Prix on October 27 if the well-loved driver Perez was absent.”
Red Bull was contemplating replacing Perez for the latter part of the season due to his terrible performance streak.
Perez not scoring any points jeopardizes Red Bull's lead in the F1 constructors' championship.
They hold a slim 42-point advantage over McLaren as they approach the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of this month.
Despite being 142 points behind Verstappen, Perez's performance remains stable for the time being.
Horner stated that despite recent rumors, Checo is still a driver for Red Bull Racing.
"We're excited to watch him race on tracks where he's previously excelled once the summer break ends."
Perez staying with Red Bull implies that Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda will continue as drivers for the team. Ricciardo was previously considered the top candidate at Red Bull to replace Perez.
This situation also impacts Liam Lawson, who will continue to serve as Red Bull's reserve driver.
Perez’s long-term future with Red Bull remains uncertain, as Helmut Marko hinted that "the cards will be reshuffled again" in 2025.
