Lewis Hamilton Praises Brad Pitt’s Driving Skills in Upcoming ‘F1’ Movie Filmed at Live Grands Prix
Exclusive Insight: Lewis Hamilton’s True Opinion on Brad Pitt’s Driving Skills
“These vehicles are designed for filmmaking, yet at their core, they are genuine race cars.”
Last year at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, Brad Pitt made headlines by driving on the track to film scenes for the movie 'F1'.
Last weekend, the famous Hollywood actor and the movie production team returned to Silverstone to continue filming.
Lewis Hamilton, who served as an executive producer for the film, has now commented on Brad Pitt's driving skills.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared with Deadline that Brad and Damson Idris underwent nearly three months of training in different vehicles.
"They began their careers in Formula 3 and subsequently advanced to Formula 2."
Lewis mentions that they are truly outstanding, describing them as natural-born athletes.
"He found their driving skills to be quite impressive."
Last year at Silverstone, Pitt drove a car during actual F1 events and in front of spectators. This car was an F2 vehicle that had been altered to resemble an F1 car.
"We collaborated with Mercedes, and the concept was originally suggested by Toto Wolff," stated director Joseph Kosinski.
Many people criticize racing films for lacking speed, pointing out that the cars used in these movies are typically built just for show. While they may appear authentic, they are not actual race cars.
During one of our initial discussions, Toto remarked, "You ought to base this on a Formula 2 vehicle, but design it to resemble a Formula 1 car." Hence, it features a Formula 2 chassis and engine.
"We collaborated extensively with Mercedes and their design and aerodynamics teams to create a custom body that mirrors the look of the latest Formula 1 cars."
"They were designed exclusively for this film. Additionally, they feature 15 built-in camera mounts, along with integrated recorders, batteries, and transmitters."
"They're designed for film production, yet at their core, they are essentially racing vehicles."
The film, titled ‘F1’, stands out because its scenes were filmed during actual grand prix events.
Director Kosinski highlighted the impressive feat of having Brad and Damson Idris drive the cars themselves. He emphasized the unique challenge of performing these high-speed maneuvers in front of a live audience and capturing the action on film, noting that the logistics involved were unlike any he had previously encountered.
"We're filming at real grand prix events, and there are moments in this project where we have extremely limited timeframes. We're capturing footage on the track between practice runs and qualifying rounds, all while hundreds of thousands of spectators watch."
The plot of the film revolves around Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Pitt, who is an experienced race car driver enticed to return for a final chance at success.
In 2023, the British Grand Prix paddock included an additional garage for an imaginary team named APXGP.
Over the past weekend, fans noticed Brad Pitt in the background filming his own "post-race interview" while Lando Norris and Sergio Perez were giving their actual post-race interviews.
The film will include every current Formula 1 driver and has been created in collaboration with Formula 1.
The release date for ‘F1’ is set for June 2025.
