Lewis Hamilton Optimistic About Mercedes’ Upgrades: F1 Podium ‘Isn’t Far Away
Lewis Hamilton believes that a spot on the podium is within reach, highlighting significant advancements made by Mercedes. Hamilton remains optimistic that Mercedes will soon be able to compete for a top-three finish in Formula 1.
Lewis Hamilton expresses optimism about competing for F1 podiums in the near future, encouraged by the progress Mercedes has made recently.
No Mercedes driver has made it onto the F1 podium this season after facing a tough start in the first eight races. George Russell has secured the team's highest placements, finishing fifth in both Bahrain and Monaco.
Mercedes unveiled a revamped front wing at the Monaco Grand Prix, aiming to close the performance gap with competitors Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren.
Hamilton, set to use the upgraded front wing at the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend following Russell's initial trial in Monaco, thinks Mercedes has made progress with the W15.
"The car is indeed getting better. Every team member is making progress, and we're hopeful that we're closing the gap with the Red Bulls, which is very encouraging," stated the seven-time world champion.
"Extremely pleased with the team's efforts at the factory. The dedication and resilience shown by everyone are commendable. The team remains focused and the morale is very high."
"I aim for us to catch up to these competitors and begin challenging for the lead."
When questioned about the possibility of securing a podium at a circuit where he has achieved seven victories in his career, Hamilton responded, "I believe it's within reach."
"Both vehicles are equipped with the new upgrade for this weekend, and I'm eager to experience its performance on the track."
Hamilton was also questioned about the area in which Mercedes has achieved the most significant improvements with the W15.
He explained that the most significant enhancement this year has been in the ride quality and the ability to lower the car, achievements that others have already attained.
"The car now offers greater stability when entering corners, making it much more predictable than in previous years. Especially within the past couple of years, the stability has improved significantly. This year's model allows for a higher level of commitment when navigating corners."
"We've been falling behind in maintaining balance through corners, while others have made significant improvements, so that's the area we're focusing on improving."
