Lewis Hamilton Calls Out ‘Bull****’ Moments in Brad Pitt’s F1 Film, Adjusts Key Scenes for Authenticity
Lewis Hamilton identifies "nonsense" moments in Brad Pitt's F1 movie
Lewis Hamilton details the film scenes he had to modify
Lewis Hamilton has revealed the scenes in the Brad Pitt Formula 1 movie that made him think, "This is nonsense."
Hamilton serves as an executive producer for the forthcoming film that features Hollywood icon Pitt, who portrays an experienced race car driver attempting to reclaim his former success.
The action will be named 'F1' and is set to debut next year.
Hamilton was questioned about which parts of shooting scenes for the film made him need to "call bull****".
He mentioned to Esquire that the conversations would solely focus on racing situations and the specialized language that engineers use.
"Especially the racing scenes, including overtaking maneuvers, pit stop strategies, and all related activities."
"In Formula 1, it's unlikely for a car to crash into a wall, flip over, land back on its wheels, and continue racing."
Hamilton mentioned that Ehren Kruger, the screenwriter, conducted extensive research by watching numerous races and attending several of them in person before going off to draft the script.
“We would have discussions about the essence of racing. After he finished writing the script, I would review it with him, pointing out any inaccuracies or unrealistic elements that didn't align with the true nature of F1, striving to ensure its authenticity.”
"Simultaneously, I launched a production company, which means I’m also working as a producer alongside these individuals."
"I’ve had the opportunity to engage in various aspects, such as ensuring diversity within the cast and including a woman in a pit stop, a scenario that has never occurred at the actual track."
Hans Zimmer was my top choice for the movie's music, so we got Hans Zimmer. Joe Kosinski, the director, has been incredible at keeping me involved in all aspects.
Is Brad Pitt capable of driving?
The actor has shot footage for the film at a number of actual F1 grand prix events.
During the British Grand Prix last year, he piloted a modified F2 car on the track before the live audience to capture a genuine scene.
Hamilton has disclosed the reality regarding the famous actor's driving abilities.
"We visited a racetrack in Los Angeles," he explained. "I rode in the passenger seat while he drove."
"When I was younger, I worked as a driving instructor. It was a part-time job that helped me earn some money while I pursued my racing career."
"I have spent time with countless people who aren't professional drivers. It becomes clear right away who is skilled and who is not."
"Immediately, he was engaged. You could see that he possesses the talent. It's in his genes. He simply hasn't had the chance to refine it like we have. However, he has enormous potential."
Hamilton asserts that Pitt is capable of giving a genuine portrayal of a race car driver, stating, "Yes, but clearly it requires time."
"In the end, a person in their fifties joining the competition and challenging us younger folks is quite unconventional."
"But then there's the question of: How would you approach that? What amount of training would you need to truly return and perform with the same level of skill? Yes, a significant amount of detail was considered."
